Upper primary (ages 10-11)

Introduction

Download: What are students doing online - upper primary

Understanding what students are doing online and how they use online technologies is a valuable starting point for teaching cybersafety. The ACMA has three resources to assist teachers in finding out about students’ online activities.

  • videos showing children discussing their use of computers and other technologies and educators discussing the role of schools in developing cybersafety programs for this age level
  • research into children’s technology use
  • a Student technology audit. Teachers can use this to establish how their students use computers and other technologies.

To support cybersafety teaching, the ACMA has developed a Cybercitizen profile for 10–11 year olds. It outlines four ‘capabilities’:

  • digital media literacy
  • positive online behaviour
  • peer and personal safety
  • e-security.

The Teacher resources section provides a proposed Learning pathway and education resources to enable effective, age appropriate teaching across each of the four capabilities.
