Understanding what students are doing online and how they use online technologies is a valuable starting point for teaching cybersafety. The ACMA has three resources to assist teachers in finding out about students’ online activities. These are:
-
videos of children discussing their use of computers and other technologies and educators discussing the role of schools in developing cybersafety programs for this age level
-
research about children’s technology use
-
a Student technology audit. Educators can use this to establish how their students use computers and other technologies.
To support cybersafety teaching, the ACMA has developed a Cybercitizen profile for 5–7 year olds. It outlines four ‘capabilities’:
The Teacher resources section provides a proposed Learning pathway and education resources to enable effective, age appropriate teaching across each of the four capabilities.
