What are students doing online?

Understanding what students are doing online and how they use online technologies provides a good starting point for teaching cybersafety.

This section provides resources to assist teachers in finding out about students’ online activities at different ages. The resources include:

Video clips

In these videos, children and young people describe their internet and mobile technology use, how their use changes with age and reflect on the importance of technologies in their lives.

Research

The ACMA has an ongoing commitment to conduct research into how children and young people integrate technology into their daily lives. Media and Communications in Australian Families 2007 provide a brief snapshot for each age group. Teachers can also access the ACMA's research papers in the Research section of this website.

Cybercitizen profiles

The ACMA Cybercitizen profiles provide educators with information on how students at different ages use the internet and mobile technologies and suggests skills, knowledge and behaviours students require to help keep them safe online. See Explaining the Cybercitizen profiles for more detailed information.
