Cybersmart Hero
About Cybersmart Hero
Students receive some pointers from the ACMA’s Education Advisor, Naomi Raiz during the trial of Cybersmart Hero.
Cybersmart Hero is an interactive online activity that is part of the Interactive Shared Learning suite of programs. The activity teaches children about cyberbullying in a protected environment.
Students play the role of a bystander who becomes aware of a cyberbullying problem at school.
By the end of the activity students will be:
- familiar with the issues related to cyberbullying
- equipped to respond to cyberbullying issues if required
What is the scenario?
Cybersmart Hero is a story about a small friendship group at a school in regional Australia. Students take on the role of the main character, Hero, and follow events both in and out of school over the course of a few days.
Students ultimately become concerned about the welfare of a fellow student, who is the subject of some targeted bullying through electronic media such as texts, emails, chat rooms and social networking.
As the scenario unfolds, the students are required to discuss the issues and make decisions about the responsible course of action.
How does ISL work?
View the Cybersmart Detectives promotional video for an overview of the online activity and feedback from participating students and Guides.
In the activity, students interact with Cybersmart
Guides—school staff, police and internet safety experts, working in 'virtual control rooms' located throughout Australia.
Cybersmart Guides advise the students throughout and are available to answer questions. All messages are moderated by the 'Central Control Room' organised by the ACMA. There is no facility for student teams to communicate directly with each other or anyone outside the activity.
The ACMA provides additional resource material for teachers and schools to reinforce the key messages.
How do I register my class?
