This unit aims to help students to:
- understand that symbols are used to communicate or represent ideas
- recognise avatars as online constructs that can help protect their identity
Finding and identifying appropriate online content
This unit aims to help students to:
- develop the knowledge and skills to enable them to conduct effective online searches
- identify reliable and appropriate online content
- develop strategies to deal with unwanted or inappropriate content.
Positive online behaviour
Positive online communications
This unit aims to help students to:
- understand how online communication is similar to, but differs from, face-to-face communication
- develop kind and respectful online communication skills.
Cyberbullying
This unit aims to help students to:
- develop an understanding of bullying and cyberbullying and the similarities and differences between them
- recognise the different roles of people involved in bullying situations, especially bystanders
- acknowledge the effects of cyberbullying on the people involved.
Peer and personal safety
Sharing personal information
This unit aims to help students to:
- recognise that personal information can be used to identify or locate them
- understand that personal information must only be shared appropriately and safely
- acknowledge that they must seek the help of a trusted adult when setting up online accounts/ profiles.
