Book school seminars
To inform and assist teachers, children and parents about online safety, ACMA offers Cybersafety Outreach—a program of cybersafety professional development and presentations in metropolitan and regional centres throughout Australia. These presentations and workshops provide valuable information about the risks confronting children online and offer appropriate tools and strategies to help make their experiences safe and positive.
Currently available:
Internet Safety Awareness Presentations
As part of its Cybersafety Outreach program, the ACMA offers free general internet safety awareness presentations for parents, students and teachers. Each presentation is approximately 60 minutes excluding question time.
These presentations are easy to understand, thorough, non-technical and informative. They cover a range of issues including:
-
the ways children use the internet and emerging technologies
-
potential risks faced by children when online such as cyberbullying, identity theft, inappropriate contact and exposure to inappropriate content
-
tips and strategies to help children stay safe online

Professional Development for Educators (PD)
In consultation with key stakeholders and education bodies, the ACMA has developed a free and accredited Cybersafety Outreach—Professional Development for Educators (PD) program. This workshop provides teachers with a comprehensive understanding of a modern student’s technology profile, digital literacy, positive online behaviour, personal and peer safety and the school’s and teachers’ legal obligations to minimise and address risks.
The PD is available as a full-day workshop or as 3 x 2 hour sessions. It is offered as either an on-site workshop, held at a school, or an off-site workshop held at a central venue.
Teachers who attend the ACMA’s accredited workshops will be:
-
better equipped with the tools and confidence to engage students on cybersafety issues
-
able to incorporate strategies into the curriculum to keep students safe at all year levels
-
aware of the capabilities required to develop good digital citizens
-
better able to identify and prevent cyberbullying
-
better able to use the ACMA's teaching resources—case studies, policies, lesson plans and more.
Teachers who attend can register for ongoing updates on key issues through a cybersafety newsletter. This newsletter will feature additional information, tips, hints, strategies and updates on available resources.
