Safer Internet Day 2012: A teacher's personal account of technology use

Safer Internet Day in 2012 will be held on Tuesday 7 February. The theme ‘Connecting generations and educating each other’ will be used to encourage schools, libraries and families to learn and connect together.

To help everyone take part in Safer Internet Day 2012, Cybersmart has developed interactive activities and resources. These will include videos, lesson plansa poster (PDF 4.68MB) and positive actions that families can take to stay safe online. Leading up to Safer Internet Day, blog posts will also focus on different cybersafety perspectives to complement the videos. You can read a personal account from Mel, a Victorian primary school teacher, now on the Cybersmart blog. Specific information and advice for grandparents and older Australians is also available now on the Cybersmart website.

Cybersmart’s key messages for schools, libraries and families this Safer Internet Day are:

  • Talk about online safety—with all members of your family and school community
  • Protect Your Privacy—check your privacy settings and update your software
  • Educate yourself about the online world—check out the Cybersmart resources.

This annual international event is coordinated by Insafe , the European network for internet safety, and supported in Australia by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

All Cybersmart resources and activities are available free of charge.
