When a group of high-school friends post a rumour about a rival it sparks a chain reaction that leaves no one untouched. Cyberbullying, sexting, filmed fights and police action ensue — will these friends avoid being Tagged forever?
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy today launched Tagged; the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s new short film to help educate young people about cyberbullying, sexting and protecting their digital reputation.
Senator Conroy joined ACMA Deputy Chairman, Richard Bean, the Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Cyber-Safety, Senator Catryna Bilyk, and more than 280 students, teachers and industry experts at the launch of Tagged in Melbourne at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.
Tagged explores cyberbullying, sexting, digital reputation and personal responsibility which are important for teenagers to understand through realistic and engaging resources.
Tagged was developed by the ACMA under the Australian Government’s cybersafety program. The film has drawn on extensive research including the ACMA’s own Click and Connect report and feedback received from members of the Government’s Youth Advisory Group. Tagged complements the diverse suite of Cybersmart programs and resources aimed at informing, educating and empowering young Australians about cybersafety issues.
Tagged can be viewed online now at www.cybersmart.gov.au/tagged or can be ordered for free from the Cybersmart website. The film is accompanied by lesson plans, activities and character interviews for use in schools which promote positive online behavior.
