 Students preparing models for filming

Finalist in the 2009 national Screen It.

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) has announced winners and finalists in the 2009 national Screen It film-making competition for school students, with cyberbullying the most popular topic this year.

The theme for Screen It was Cybersmart, chosen in consultation with competition partners, the ACMA, with the aim of encouraging students to think creatively about how they engage with the internet.

The internet is a regular part of the daily lives of children and young people in Australia. Recent research conducted by the ACMA indicates that 16 - 17 year olds are using the internet 3.5 hours per day on average.

The number of Screen It entries about cyberbullying reflects just how important this issue is for young people. The entries take a creative and innovative look at cyberbullying and other online safety issues, and highlight some valuable ways to address problems.

Winners will be formally recognised at an awards ceremony hosted by ACMI on 4 December 2009.

The ACMA will be showcasing a selection of films on the Cybersmart website early next year.
