The Government's cybersafety initiatives
The ACMA’s Cybersmart program is a key part of the Australian Government’s cybersafety initiative, funded under a four year, $125.8 million program which comprises education, international cooperation, research, law enforcement and internet service provider (ISP) filtering.
Measures funded under the Government’s commitment, in addition to the Cybersmart program, include:
- expansion of the Australian Federal Police’s role in detecting and investigating online child sex exploitation
- Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions funding to help deal with the increased activity from work of the AFP, to ensure that prosecutions are handled quickly
- the development and implementation of ISP filtering, including undertaking a real world live pilot
- the operation of a cybersafety Consultative Working Group. The group considers a broad range of cybersafety issues and provides advice to the Government, to ensure initiatives are properly developed and targeted
- the operation of a Youth Advisory Group which will provide advice to the Consultative Working Group and Government on cybersafety issues from a young person's perspective
- ongoing research into the changing digital environment to identify issues and target future policy and funding.
